"A View Of North Waltham From The Parish Records"

← Back to North Waltham

This article is a general view of life in North Waltham, written by Ann Lloyd, a long time resident of the village, who has made a considerable study of the local Parish Records. It gives a vivid account of rural life in the village throughout the centuries and most of what it has to say is equally applicable to the villages of Steventon, Ashe, Deane and many other villages in the area.

The article is divided into a number of chapters, listed below. In the original web site each chapter could be read on its own page; those separate chapter pages are not part of this archive, but the chapters were:

  • Setting the Scene
  • Earliest Times
  • Population and People
  • Law and Order
  • Work and Leisure
  • Sickness and Health
  • Houses and Other Buildings
  • Public Buildings
